Dalian Medical University (DMU) is a public medical university located in Dalian City, Liaoning Province - the largest harbor city in northeast China. Founded on 4 May 1947 as Guandong Medical College, it is the oldest formal medical college in northeastern China. It relocated to its current campus in Lushunkou District, a coastal area of Dalian, in 2007 and has grown into a multi-disciplinary institution with medicine as its core discipline.

Dalian Medical University carries two credentials that immediately distinguish it from other options: it is the largest medical university in China by international student enrollment with 1,300 students from 82 countries - and no single nationality exceeds 13% of the cohort, making it one of the most genuinely diverse medical campuses in this guide. Its Clinical Medicine discipline is ranked in the ESI global top 1%, which is a research quality benchmark that few medical universities in China can claim.

The university offers three programs for international students: the MOE-listed English MBBS (100 seats), the English-medium Clinical Medicine (with Year 1 Chinese language foundation) (non-MOE), and the English-taught BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery, open to international students since 2009). Dalian Medical University was one of the first universities in China authorized to deliver undergraduate medicine in English medium and is a National Demonstration Base of International Students by the Ministry of Education. It maintains partnerships with 100+ universities in 30+ countries including Ohio State University, the University of Adelaide, and the University of Groningen.

Dalian Medical University offers three official programs for international students: the MOE-listed English MBBS, the English-medium Clinical Medicine (with Year 1 Chinese language foundation) (non-MOE), and the English-taught BDS. All three share the same highly qualified faculty and the same 13 affiliated hospitals. Dalian Medical University was one of the first universities in China authorized to teach undergraduate medicine in English and has been enrolling international MBBS students since 2004 and international BDS students since 2009.

The English MBBS is fully taught in English from Day 1 with no Chinese language year. It is MOE-listed and limited to 100 seats per intake. The English-medium Clinical Medicine track (with Year 1 Chinese language foundation) begins with a dedicated Chinese language year, then delivers English-medium instruction from Year 2 onward (all medical subjects in English). Both programs lead to PMDC-approved degrees that qualify graduates for the NRE/NLE exam. The English BDS is a 5-year program fully in English, MOE-listed, and follows the same language policy as the MBBS.

The university's Language Centre provides HSK intensive classes with 91% of participants improving their scores by more than 10 points. The Medical Foundation Course Tutoring Centre is open 5 days a week. The Year 6 internship for MBBS and BDS can be completed in China, in the student's home country, or in a third country - with Dalian Medical University conducting a qualification evaluation of any non-Chinese hospital. For internship in China, HSK-4 is required before starting.

Faculty strength: 9,800 faculty and medical staff ยท 1,000+ senior professional titles ยท 270+ doctoral supervisors ยท 1,790+ master's supervisors ยท 4 postdoctoral research stations.

Dalian City is located at the southern tip of the Liaodong Peninsula in Liaoning Province. It is the biggest harbor city in northeast China and a major international shipping, logistics, and financial hub for Northeast Asia. The city was named one of the Best Tourist Cities of China and was recognized by UNEP with the highest prize of international garden city by IFPRA - a distinction that reflects both the quality of urban planning and the coastal environment.

The climate is temperate coastal - significantly more moderate than the extreme winters of inland northeast Chinese cities. The campus itself is in Lushunkou District, a coastal subdistrict of Dalian, 373 acres in area. Dalian Zhoushuizi International Airport connects the city to major domestic and international destinations. Halal food is available on and near campus. The Dalian Municipal Government specifically provides a scholarship of 8,000 RMB/year for each MBBS international student - one of the few city-level scholarships that directly reduces annual study costs.

The Dalian Medical University international student community spans 82 countries with no single nationality exceeding 13% of enrollment. For Pakistani and South Asian students, this means a genuinely diverse peer environment with an established student network, regular community events, and practical campus support in multiple languages.

Student life: Halal food is available on and near campus. The Dalian Government Scholarship of 8,000 RMB/year specifically benefits MBBS students. 65% of all international students receive university-level or higher scholarships annually.

Important Admission Requirements

๐Ÿ“Step 1

CSCA Exam (New 2026 Requirement)

All undergraduate applicants to Chinese universities must pass the CSCA (China Scholastic Competency Assessment) from 2026 onwards. Mathematics is compulsory for all programs. MBBS and BDS applicants are exempt from the Chinese language component as both programs are English-taught. The CSCA is held five times per year; register at www.csca.cn.

๐ŸŽ™๏ธStep 2

Track Selection: MBBS vs Clinical Medicine

Always confirm your track from your Admission Notice - not the pre-admission letter. If it reads 'MBBS (English Taught)' you are on the MOE-listed English track (tuition: 42,000 RMB/year, hostel: 10,000 RMB/year). If it reads 'Clinical Medicine' you are on the English-medium non-MOE track (Year 1: Chinese language foundation) (tuition: 25,000 RMB/year from Year 2, hostel: 5,000 RMB/year). Do not enroll without written confirmation of your track.

๐Ÿ’ณStep 3

Application & Documents

No IELTS or TOEFL required. Submit: passport copy, passport-size photo (white background), police clearance certificate, SSC and HSSC transcripts, physical examination form (Medical Examination Record for Foreigners), and bank statement. Application fee: 2,000 RMB (non-refundable after admission letter issuance). Titans Abroad reviews your complete package before submission.
