Japan Foundation Fellowships & Cultural Programmes

The foundation operates through three major program areas. The Arts and Cultural Exchange division supports visual arts, performing arts, film, and publication projects. The Japanese-Language Education Overseas division focuses on teaching, learning, and testing, including programs for Japanese children resident overseas and descendants of migrants.

The Japanese Studies and Global Partnerships division provides support for researchers, academic organizations, and intellectual exchange networks. This division also manages programs related to the Center for Global Partnership and various international dialogue initiatives.

Applicants must identify a specific program from the official Program List that matches their project objectives. Each program has its own set of application instructions, forms, and eligibility criteria which must be followed to be considered for funding.

The Japan Foundation screens all submitted applications through a formal review process. Successful applicants receive support based on the specific guidelines of the program for which they applied.
