About the Knight-Hennessy Scholars (KHS) Program
The Knight-Hennessy Scholars (KHS) program is a multidisciplinary leadership development initiative for graduate students at Stanford University. It brings together scholars from around the globe to engage in experiences that prepare them to be visionary, courageous, and collaborative leaders capable of addressing complex world challenges.
All scholars are enrolled as Stanford University graduate students in addition to their participation in the KHS program. They pursue graduate degrees at any of Stanford's seven schools, including business, education, engineering, humanities and sciences, law, medicine, and sustainability.
The program provides up to three years of financial support for tuition and living expenses. Beyond funding, scholars participate in leadership development programming that complements their academic studies and prepares them for roles in academia, industry, government, and the nonprofit sector.
Each year, a new cohort joins a diverse community of scholars from various disciplines, nationalities, and backgrounds. This community structure encourages collaboration on projects and the development of lifelong professional and personal connections.
Selection is based on three core criteria: independence of thought, purposeful leadership, and a civic mindset. The program seeks candidates who are curious, resilient, and committed to contributing to the greater good.
