About the Knight-Hennessy Scholars Program
The Knight-Hennessy Scholars program is a leadership development initiative for graduate students at Stanford University. Scholars from around the globe receive up to three years of financial support to pursue graduate studies at any of Stanfordβs seven schools while engaging in experiences that prepare them to be visionary, courageous, and collaborative leaders.
All scholars are enrolled as Stanford University graduate students in addition to their participation in the Knight-Hennessy program. The program provides a community where scholars from diverse disciplines, nationalities, and backgrounds collaborate on projects and develop leadership skills for careers in academia, industry, government, and the nonprofit sector.
Funding covers tuition and associated fees for up to three years, depending on the degree length. Scholars also receive a stipend for living and academic expenses, such as room and board, books, and local transportation, along with a travel stipend for one annual trip to and from Stanford.
Newly enrolling scholars receive a one-time relocation stipend for moving costs or technology purchases. In their second and third years, scholars may apply for supplemental funds to support academic enrichment activities like conference travel.
The program does not have quotas based on discipline, program, or world region. It seeks candidates who demonstrate independence of thought, purposeful leadership, and a civic mindset.
