Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship 2026

HEC nominates 400 students annually for the main list: 200 Bachelor's (including 20 Medicine, 10 Dentistry, 40 other fields), 100 Master's, 30 PhD, and 70 OTM. There is also a waiting list. Each participating country has its own national quota - the 400-seat figure is Pakistan's bilateral allocation.

A degree from a Hungarian university is an EU-recognized degree. Graduates can apply for post-study work visas across EU/EEA countries. For Medicine specifically, you would need to go through local medical licensing procedures in whichever EU country you wish to practice.

HEC distributes nominations as: Punjab 50%, KPK 11.5%, Sindh-Rural 11.4%, Sindh-Urban 7.6%, Balochistan 6%, FATA/GB 4%, AJK 2%, Merit 7.5%. Students from smaller provinces can have better nomination odds per capita.

IELTS or other language test requirements depend on the specific university and program you apply to. Many Hungarian universities offer English-medium programs that require IELTS 6.0 or equivalent. Some programs accept a high school or university education-in-English certificate. Always check the specific language requirement listed on each program's page on the Stipendium Hungaricum portal. For Hungarian-medium programs, no IELTS is needed but you will study in Hungarian.

After HEC nominates you, your application is forwarded to your chosen Hungarian university. The university then conducts its own evaluation, which often includes an entrance exam or interview. For Medicine and Dentistry, universities like Semmelweis University (Budapest), University of Debrecen, and University of Pecs have their own admissions processes that assess your biology and chemistry knowledge. You should prepare for these university-level tests in parallel with your Stipendium Hungaricum application. Results and conditional acceptances are typically issued between March and June.

Yes. Medicine graduates from recognized Hungarian universities like Semmelweis University and the University of Debrecen can apply for PMDC/PMC registration. They must pass the PMLE (Pakistan Medical Licensing Examination) like all foreign medical graduates returning to Pakistan. Hungarian medical degrees are EU-accredited, which also opens pathways to practice in European countries after completing local licensing requirements.

Yes. Students who are awaiting their final FSC or degree results can apply by the January 15 deadline. However, you must submit your final official degree/certificate by August 1, 2026. If you do not submit by this date, you may be disqualified from the scholarship even after selection. Ensure your institution issues results and attestations in time.
