About the Transilvania Academica Scholarship 2026 - Romania
The Transilvania Academica Scholarship (TAS) is a fully funded Master's scholarship offered by Transilvania University of Braศov (Universitatea Transilvania din Braศov), one of Romania's largest, most established, and most internationally engaged public universities. The scholarship is specifically designed for non-EU and non-EEA students, reflecting the university's commitment to building a diverse and globally connected student community. Braศov itself is one of Central Europe's most beautiful and historically rich university cities, nestled in the Carpathian Mountains of Transylvania.
The financial package covers the full duration of the Master's degree and is genuinely comprehensive: 100% of tuition fees including registration and graduation charges, free accommodation in university dormitories (available during holidays as well as term time), and a monthly allowance of 800 RON (approximately USD 170 or EUR 160). Additionally, if the chosen Master's program is taught in Romanian rather than English, a full Romanian language preparatory year is covered by the scholarship - meaning language barriers do not exclude you from the program.
What is not covered: travel expenses to Romania and back, and Romanian student visa costs. These must be arranged and financed independently by the student. The scholarship is renewed each academic year, contingent on maintaining satisfactory academic progress. Applications are submitted through the TAS portal and evaluated on a combination of academic achievement, motivation letter quality, and recommendation letter strength - not on GPA alone.
The portfolio of available Master's programs is unusually eclectic and international in character, spanning Cyber Security, Internet Technologies, Virtual Engineering in Automotive Design, Natural Hazards and Risk Assessment in Civil Engineering, Law and Diplomacy of Sustainable Development, Restoration and Conservation of Built Heritage, Human Performance in Sports Training, and others. The majority of programs are offered in English. Romania's membership in the European Union means that a Master's degree from Transilvania University is fully recognized across all EU member states - an important credential for students with European career ambitions.

No. Travel expenses and visa costs are explicitly not covered. Students must arrange and finance these independently.
A Romanian language preparatory year is also fully covered by the scholarship, so you can apply even if you don't yet speak Romanian.
Yes. The scholarship is awarded for the full duration of the Master's degree, provided the student maintains satisfactory academic progress each year.
800 Romanian lei is approximately USD 170 or EUR 160 per month. In Braศov, this partially covers daily living costs - food, local transport, and personal expenses. Braศov has one of the lowest costs of living among European university cities, but 800 lei alone is not enough for all expenses. Since accommodation is fully covered (dormitory), the allowance primarily needs to cover food and utilities. Most students budget an additional 300-500 lei per month from personal savings or part-time income.
Braศov is a UNESCO heritage medieval city in the Transylvania region, surrounded by the Carpathian Mountains. It is one of the most beautiful student cities in Central Europe - a fraction of the cost of Western European cities, with easy train and bus access to Bucharest, Budapest, and beyond. Romania is an EU member state, meaning your Master's degree is fully recognized across Europe. The student community is international and growing. Halal food is available in the city and the student environment is welcoming to international students from all backgrounds.
